According to local media and Algerian official gazettes, as the first country in the Arab and African region to implement import and production restrictions on diesel passenger vehicles, Algeria recently officially released new regulations, further tightening relevant access policies for diesel vehicles, aiming to promote environmental transformation. This adjustment has direct reference significance for Chinese used car export companies planning to enter the local market.

According to the operating guidelines for automobile manufacturers and dealers published in the Algerian official gazette, the country has officially prohibited authorized dealers from importing diesel-powered passenger vehicles and also disallows domestic companies from producing diesel passenger vehicles. Regarding individual imports, the policy clearly states that diesel used cars less than 3 years old are also included in the prohibited import list.
The new regulations clearly define the types of energy that can be imported, allowing dealers to import only gasoline, electric, hydrogen, hybrid, gasoline-hydrogen hybrid, and LPG/CNG-powered vehicles or vehicles compatible with these fuels, provided that vehicle emissions comply with current local regulations. The Algerian consumer protection organization APOCE further clarified that the ban only applies to diesel passenger vehicles; commercial diesel vehicles are exempt. The regulations also specify that the criterion for "new vehicle" is a mileage of less than 100 kilometers, not the 1000 kilometers widely circulated in the market.

It is worth noting that this ban does not completely block all import channels for diesel passenger vehicles. The regulations do not prohibit individuals from importing new diesel passenger vehicles under their own names. As long as the vehicle is new and not used, and all relevant taxes and fees are paid in full, individuals can still complete the import process. This is currently one of the few legal pathways for diesel passenger vehicles to enter the Algerian market.
